I've tried with my Bro-in-law's Nikon in a few occasion & I find that I cannot zoom far enough when trying to capture my son's facial expressions. As an alternative, I crop the pictures. Would this be the solution?

Hi, I am tagging on to this thread. I am very very new to DSLR & am considering D60 because of it's light weight. Generally taking pictures of children only. Between D40 & D60, I should get D60 right? Or am I wrong?
