I usually set 'AF-on' for focus and shutter release button for metering when shooting static scenes/subjects (landscapes/ long exposures/ product/ macro/ etc...) on tripod.

I have also looked at the Versapack before but gave up the idea of getting it after looking at the straps, the shoulder straps are not padded and feels kinda cheap, the shoulder straps are the deal breaker for me. A pity since I kind of liked the bag.

I also miss the quick jump thingy, makes navigating around a breeze.

I just wipe my equipment with a wet cloth then with a dry towel before storing.

Somehow I'm glad to know that its not peculiar to my tripod but that the smell is a Gitzo thingy. I always thought my hand smelled of cf after handling my tripod, maybe its the cf or the lamination method they use that results in the smell.

Maybe can try reinstalling, I'm using 3.9.3.0 didn't encounter any issues in editing and converting jpegs from my panasonic compact.

Don't think the image review on the 40d lcd screen will look sharp if you zoom in to the max, why not wait till you can transfer your images to the com before making an assessment.

I'm using the Canon for my uwa, had wanted to get the Tokina due to the constant f2.8 but the copy I tested had some focusing issues with my cam. The Canon performed well so far, it's the lightest among the few you mentioned I think, if only it is a constant aperture lens.

You should be able to find saba at Japanese supermarkets, think the one at Liang Court should have also.

Saw some nice chinese photography books at pageone vivo city the last time I went but the collection is much smaller than the english ones though.
