A cloudy dusk in Hong Kong

these days are getting better. but very very inconsistent weather... there are big "pieces" of dark clouds flying around at high speed, so it may rain any time.... u can see literally that dark cloud above you head is raining, and everywhere around it is deep navy blue.... very scary...

Nikon 50 1.4 VS 50 1.8. TEST, hope can help fellow clubsnappers!

thanks for you support guys... its my hobby and i really enjoy doing such tests.... im thinking of doing a tests on ZF50 1.4 too, but i dont have one yet.... i dont really like to use MF as its really eye straining.... and the "hit" rate isnt really high for me... maybe only half of the photos...

Nikon 50 1.4 VS 50 1.8. TEST, hope can help fellow clubsnappers!

[ i know Ken Rockwell's 50mm test.... i find his works and test fascinating when i first come to Nikon from Konica... but after a while, i feel myself dont quite believe in him... firstly, i dont really like his attitude of saying the 18-200 is best lens... and i really dont believe his...

Nikon 50 1.4 VS 50 1.8. TEST, hope can help fellow clubsnappers!

i absolutely agree with you, there are a lot of factors determining whether it is a good lens or not. i think sharpness/level of details is one of the dominating factor when i buy a lens. in this case the 50 1.4 wins. yep, i will do a bokeh test soon. a i think it is also very important...

Nikon 50 1.4 VS 50 1.8. TEST, hope can help fellow clubsnappers!

alright, i see! haha yeah, i did the 1.8 VS 2.8 simply out of expectation and curiousity. As i thought 2.8 VS 2.8 will be very unfair. as the 50mm1.4 is a prime and already stepped down, while the 17-55 is zoom and is at wide open. nonetheless, thanks for your comment.

Nikon 50 1.4 VS 50 1.8. TEST, hope can help fellow clubsnappers!

thanks! what do you mean by comparing several variable at a time? cos, initially i thought the 50 1.4 should have similar sharpness with 17-55, at F1.8 and 2.8 respectively. the 50 1.4 is a prime lens, so by right, it should have outstanding sharpness. however, it only achieves similar...

Nikon 50 1.4 VS 50 1.8. TEST, hope can help fellow clubsnappers!

AFD 50mm F1.4 VS AFS 17-55 F2.8 now, from the above test, we know that the 50 1.4 wins for sure. how does it compare to the DX king, 17-55 f2.8? lets see. 50mmf1.4 is always on the <<<<left<<<< and the 17-55 f2.8 is always on the >>>>right>>>> F1.8 VS F2.8 the 17-55 sure wins at this...

    My Very First Post

its a pretty decent shot, if its the first time u shoot at night, without a tripod. being warm (yellowish inclined) is fine, but u must make sure the yellow makes the photo stand out and special. if it is just an ordinary shot, its better to make it a bit colder. another advice on your...

A cloudy dusk in Hong Kong

It has been raining for so many days. and really, at this kind of weather, there isnt much to shoot around. i dont want my equipment just to rot and grow fungi, so i just went out and took a few snaps in Fo Tan/Sha Tin 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Nikon 50 1.4 VS 50 1.8. TEST, hope can help fellow clubsnappers!

F2.8 F4.0 F5.6 F8.0 To me, the reason i buy a prime lens is to be able to obtain good sharpness at a big aperture to create a shallow and loose background and have nice Bokeh. the 50 1.4 obviously wins and i think it worth the money. It is just my personal opinion, at...

Nikon 50 1.4 VS 50 1.8. TEST, hope can help fellow clubsnappers!

I just recently purchased the 50 1.4. i have read many forum posts saying that the two lenses dont have a big difference, and 50 1.4 is not worth the money. so, since im quite free these days, i decided to do a test, and see if the F1.4 justifies its triple-the-price of the F1.8. The...

How to Know VR is working ??

shoot more and u will feel... u will know whether its on or not by looking at the picture... say u are at 85mm, and u still get a sharp picture with the shutter speed of 1/20, then VR is definitely on.

what lens are you guys using for studio shot

depends on what do you want to shoot, usually half body or full body shots will require a most ordinary lens... a 18-55, 18-70, 17-55 whatever, its up to what you have. they will not make a difference because you are shooting at at least 7.1 or 8, not only that, you are also shooting under...
