This kinda question can go on forever. Try out snapping both at a cam store and see what you feel about the cams yourself. Neither r hugely better than the other tech spec wise. If u wanna try photography but am not sure if u will continue snapping then, a second hand cam is a pretty cheap way...

apple LCD r pretty good. And very accurate color rendition. ITs HIPS LCD tech. Any of their laptops also give very good and accurate color.

Sigh.. i knew there would be replies like this. Expensive dosent mean good, cheap dosent mean bad. Its just knowing the limits and choosing the right lens for the job/personal prefence. The question infers exploration of these 2 options. Something that i had not the opportunity to do for now...

I stand corrected. on the mistake on the 5mm difference. Reading so many reviews that i mixed up the 2 lenses, both are good. The acid test nonetheless is to shoot both and see which one i prefer. (this is in ref to the 17-50 tam vs canon 17-55 ) Its a side point though.

This is a bit of a critique on the budget 50mm prime 1.8 from canon regarding its sharpness. Its only when stopped to f4.0 do i get the resolution that i would like. the sharpness is pretty poor between 1.8-3.5 ish. Does the 1.4 fare much better? Also i would consider CZ primes as well but...
