I agree with faineant. Since you already have a standard zoom, the 70-200 f4 IS is one of the better lens around (in terms of IQ and weight). Most of the bigger shops (CP, AP) do have monthly installments via credit card but they charge you the extra 2%.

I am surprised to hear of the IS making noise. Both my L lens 70-200 f4 IS and 24-105 f4 IS are equally quiet. As for front and back focusing problems, its good that you tested it out before forking out your money. There is likely some quality control issues that Canon need to sought out...

Thank you all for the replies and interesting information. It seems Nikons main strength lies in the ergonomics, the accuracy of the CLS and Canon's main strength is in the range of lenses. Will borrow a friends D300 next week to try out. Thanks again and have a good weekend. Jimmy
