I think I know why. It won't fire if it is in auto flash mode and u press shutter down all the way without half press, when the lighting requires flash. The shutter should fire either u shoot with disabled flash or try during the day. Let us know your findout.

Hey, tell u the deal I got from SITEX. Go to Canon booth, and look for the boss. After negotiation, my deal is $660=A80+128MBCF+case+charger Pretty good for me.

rechargable battery is Sanyo, but not the 2100 type. only 1700ma, the charger also a bit bulky.

A80 has bigger sensor than A70 (1/1.8 " (7.18 x 5.32 mm) vs 1/2.7 " (5.27 x 3.96 mm) ) Just compare these two, does it mean A80 should be able to achieve shallower DOF than A70? As S45 has same sensor size as A80, from the specification, S45 and A80 should be able to achieve same level of...

thanks, john, all these are not really the concerns. To make it simpler, I would like to know the overall photo quality and the ability to achieve shallow Depth of field effect. I have tried DOF on A70, hardly can achieve good DOF effect.
