There are 3 model of firewire, 4-4 pins, 6-6pins, and 4-6pins.. so like CY_OH says, you need a 4 - 6 pin firewire.. ;)

Why not tape? DVD camcorders compresses data when recording(into Mpeg 2) that means that if you wants to do editing later, you need to convert the format back into AVI/MOV unless you use the software provided. Also keep in mind that data are lost during conversion. Then again, DVD are good if...
