    yeah im pretty interested in the Matrox MAX thingy too. wonder if anyone has used them here. One thing though, though not all cores are used, they do "alternate" at regular timings. odd numbers for a while, then the even numbers.

    my Mac Pro on 8GB Ram 1066, dual quad-core 2.4GHz. Render times are usually 1:1... occasionally slightly faster... using mpegstreamclip, handbrake, FCP, Compressor, or a combination of them. And then the exhaust fan warms up real quick.

    i agree. there isn't a standard rate that you can follow.. ie. per 1min/30secs, or per how many days of shoot, or how many people appear in it, or how many edits you have. calculate your costs, follow from there.

    dude, you should at least triple or quadruple your rates man. totally spoiling the market with those videos. for that standard, you're charging waaay too low. Just my $0.02. :)

    how many is enough is quite subjective. but then you can just get one off the shelf in US or Amazon.com at a relatively cheap discounted price even compared to here if you do run outta space. Personally I always carry a Pelican case with 2x 32GB, 3x 16GB, 2x 8GB, 1x 2GB. Overkill some people say.

    Nexstar has reasonable prices. I have 1 2-bay dock, and 1 1-bay dock. With eSATA, USB3 and Firewire interfaces. RAID cases are usually more expensive cos of the chip board needed for that RAID thingy.
