Canon 7D vs Nikon D300s vs Sony a850

For a birder, an 18mp aps-c is invaluable. Telephoto lenses are much more expensive than ultra-wides (not to mention heavier), and we need the crop factor for the extra zoom.

Tipping - a discussion and comments thread

As someone who lives in the US, let me just say that 15% is the minimum tip we pay for acceptable service. Bad service gets 10%, good service 20%. Keep in mind that in the US, waiters get the majority of their pay from tips (often they are only paid a pathetic salary of $2-3 an hour). If you can...

Euro-Trip, JUN 10-27, 2009 - Berlin, Wolfsburg, Paris, Interlaken, Luzern, Rome, Prag

Was Neuschwanstein still under renovation when you were there? I missed some great shots back in March because of the scaffolding.

Europe Trip Austria , Italy, France

I think you have some good pictures, but I'd really like to see them (especially the Salzburg #3 and 4) with normal rather than HDR processing. HDR in general just looks too heavy handed.

Canon len 70-200 F4L (non Is) Vs 70-300 F4-5.6 IS

Get a 55-250 and save up for the 70-200 f4 IS. The difference between the 55-250 and 70-300 is not great enough to warrant the $ difference. I'm sure some people can hand hold 200mm at 1/60, but for the majority of us a telephoto lense without IS is useless in lower light conditions without a...

tokyo jun 09 - my maiden posting here

This is so simple but genius. I could've sworn you used a tilt shift lens had you not mentioned post processing.

How to get your sky looking like this?

You don't really have to wait around to take a picture like that. A circular polarizer could easily replicate the saturation/sky gradient, and a few tweaks in Photoshop will get you the color.

    Advice on trip to USA

This is a good guide for New York (including areas that you should avoid). NYC still suffers a bit of a bad reputation due to crime in the 80s/early 90s, but is generally pretty safe. Just be street smart and you should be fine. However, there are some cities that tourists should avoid...

How to get your sky looking like this?

Looks like a circular polarizer to me. If you view his other picture, there is no reflection in the sea (which is one of the things a polarizer does).

Advices needed for an amateur photographer regarding Flash Attachment & New Lens

I just got back from Europe. Keep in mind that a lot of museums don’t allow flash photography, so you’ll need either a fast lense (maybe f2.8 or lower) or a lense with image stabilization. I took only a Tamron 17-50mm and it pretty much covered everything I wanted to take pictures of (I also...

The world is just an awesome place

One suggestion is to take pictures in both landscape and portrait views. That way you mix it up a little, and can make your overall album more interesting. But definitely keep at it. There's an old photography quote that says your first 10,000 photos are your worst.

Wow, I work in Boston and I haven't even taken pictures in the city. Is #14 in the South End? Great shots.
