d 55-200 imo is not a lens for sports. and it doesnt have manual/auto focus override so it might me a lil slow to focus it out the safety wire fences. since ur hev d7k body i guess a cheaper alternative wud b d 70-300 vr lens. and uh, daredevil is right about ur 85mm bring it to shoot LP concert.

Hi, 85mm is not enough. 70-300 reach shld be ok but not fast enough. i suggest you u use 70-200mm f2.8 vr. u can borrow at camera rental if u dun wanna buy. zone 3,4 walkabout has some nice slow corners tat is easier to capture. but since its a night race you'll need a fast lens. and oh those...
