Sounds like fun! -3 degrees sounds like freezing to me. I hope your family were in the right gears/clothes to "endure" the cold there. I think Otaru does get more romantic in the evening/night, and I can imagine the white scene of snow there... Maybe I go again when it is winter next time :)...
