Isn't this something to do with the thickness of the filter? How thick is the sony one? I read somewhere there are some CPL that has rim of about 3mm but the 'normal' is maybe 5mm.

I am not an insurance expert but I thought you can buy it under home content insurance. That way you don't have to rely on the meager coverage of the travel insurance.
