your 500D has what? locking the exposure no matter what the meter mode is set to? Do you mind sharing that custom function?

looks like it locks exposure (when you half press the shutter) when metering is set to evaluative only. all other options will change the exposure until you take the picture or press the exposure lock. and i found the option to always make the focus point blink: VF illumination

im using Av or Tv. i noticed that sometimes when i half press it gets locked when the focus point blinks red. sometimes it doesnt blink red but the focus gets locked. not the exposure though. im using center focus only. weird.

Hi! i noticed that wwhen you press the shutter halfway (to pre focus) on the 7D, it does not lock the exposure. Is there any option to force the camera to do this? Aside from pressing the separate AE lock button of course :) thanks in advance!
