Woah! 600mm! On a digital body that'd be 900mm? You should have gone for some serious close-ups, DOF play and alternative views. Else everybody here has got the usual 1001 panning or side shots.

Well, just keep shooting and you will get it sharp. :) I think i have seen someone's successfully panned shots using 500mm and 1/125 seconds. Or can use IS/VR. Even a monopod/tripod ballhead would have helped.

Yes, the most impt thing is to keep practising. Learn to look for the moment and then snap. I think the most important thing next in the line is for you to get a flash. Don't worry too much about lens and other equipment, they will come naturally as you progress. :)(

I think it is better to crop before sending it in, i have had bad experiences with them chopping too close to the heads.

I like #1, good capture. Too bad I can't see the details on the stork's back, it's overexposed. #2 is overexposed too.
