Couldn't you just cheat a little? Set-up the tripod and everything. Put something where you're going to stand for the AF to lock then just throw the switch to MF.
Nothing should move after that and you can just use your remote to fire away. Just remember or mark the place to stand.
Erm... Believe he means the other direction. $80 - 150 discount for being out of warranty and of substantial age is a tad low.
But that's the way it is on the B&S i guess. Just look at the price for the new vs non warranty tamron 17-50. But sellers are free to ask for whatever they...
If you want to do the whole self portrait thing, light and image stabilization is pretty much a must. Most likely a sony or pentax for the lower cost.
Think i remember seeing a white pentax k-x in the B&S? Just don't get sucked into the whole limited lenses thing. Will get expensive, fast.
I used this for my wedding montage. Pretty much idiot proof. Video comes out nice and clear too. Had a lot of grief with the photostory for windows. Kept spitting out grainy videos with the exact same pictures.
Just run a speed test on the cards. Google should be able to get you what you need. Class 4 cards have a minimum write speed of 4MB/s subject to some variance of course.

I doubt you'll get any kind of a good deal at the shops for 2nd hand items. They have to make a profit on top of whatever they paid for them. Camp out in the buy and sell section. That should get you better prices.
Read the 2nd hand guide first though...
Or just do combination of methods. Use the epoxy to glue a strip of plastic/metal/pins/whatever across the break. Typical epoxy can hold near 1 kg per mm2 of properly bonded area. I've built a remote controlled car for my school project that's pretty much just held together with epoxy and tape...
The epoxy resin shouldn't harm the electronics. The issue is that if it sticks to the wiring, it'll be very hard to remove in the future for repairs if it breaks again. The material is non conductive, no worries about short-circuits caused by the epoxy.
And in-case you're not sure what it is...
I'm assuming you used the "elephant" brand super glue? Might want to try removing that (sandpaper and what-not)and redoing the glue job with epoxy cement. Much stronger.
Downside is that you might glue the hotshoe mount to the wiring inside and the next time something breaks, it might be that...
