my budget is below $1500 or slightly above. i want to take photography as a hobby and be a serious ameteur. If DSLR which are the ones tat are best recommended for me?

not sure if i posted on the correct section. Im a newbie to photography and now im taking an interest towards photography. I want to buy a camera so as to start to learn. Is G11 a good camera to start off with or are there other cameras more suitable for me to learn? Thanks in advance.:)
