like all the guys here replied..... its too close. try moving further back or zooming it out... if all else fails, manual focus MAY HELP a LITTLE BIT. emphasis on the caps

you're not alone my friend. same sentiments when i got it the 1st time as well and since then, its been the lens of my choice.... even my 18-55 and 75-300 have not seen day light for a long while. at the moment, the 50mm is competing w my 100mmL for attention

I'm not a professional neither am I an expert at macro photography but I do know what I want when I engage in macro photography.. Wrt to this flower, It does have a dreamy feel to it and the colours are nice and more can still be done to improve it. It may be possible to increase the f. number...

I'm a fan of BW as well and one reason for me being a fan of it is that its not as limiting as colour. I like how the lines converge to the bottom thrid as well as the light flare. Though I must say that the contrast is lacking. Try go wild and just go with high contrast =)

1. in what area is critique to be sought? - Sharpness - Composition - Artistic merit 2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work? The intertidal area is pretty much not accessible to visitors most of the time but when the tide is out (WAY OUT), the denizens will come out to frolic...
