    E-SATA External RAID Hard Drive

You could just whack another couple of 1/2TB drives into your PC and use the Intel RAID Controller to put them together as a RAID 5 array. Really easy to set up, very safe and inexpensive. This is what I use.

    Red Devils

I really like this shot - I love the darkness with the lighting focusing on the jersey. The only thing in the photo that I would actually change is to take a teeny tiny step back - I know you said you didn't want to capture the whole jersey, and I think you are right, but I would have liked to...

    An Albino Cat

This would have changed everything. The lower perspective would really bring out the cat's face as well as permitting you to capture the full hand (without chopping off fingers mid-joint). I would also have dropped your aperture a little to make sure that both eyes are tack sharp, and raised...

    D7000 Discussion Thread II

Hot pixels have a tendency to appear when using slow shutter speeds because of the longer exposure using the sensor. Getting a photo in available light is all about "gain". The sensor needs to have enough cumulative light in order to form an image over the sensor baseline (black). You can...

How long does shutter really last?

It doesn't matter. The manufacturer lists these components as a single operating unit (ie. every shot requires all components to function correctly in order to capture the image). It isn't relevant if it is the shutter or the mirror assembly that gives out. 200k is 200k, doesn't matter how you...

When do we use a lens hood?

That's exacly why I use it too. As a simple profylactic measure. It stops you from accidentally touching the front of the lens and such. These days the coatings on most lenses are good enough to eliminate flare in all but the most difficult lighting conditions, but the hood will still protect...

26 Jan 2009 Partial Solar Eclipse

Let us just hope that Singapore's "beautiful" weather doesn't kick us up the backside. Anyone want to bet that it is overcast during the eclipse? Anyone?

Is this a case of plagiarism?

Exactly. As they say: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Is this a case of plagiarism?

The bottom line is that "plagarism" in and of itself defines the direct, unauthorised use of somebody elses intellectual property and passing it off as their own. This means that the original media has to be copied. Certainly this is different to patent infringements where the "idea" is itself...

Has ClubSNAP become a sourcing spot for cheap photographers. Are we being taken adv?

I frankly don't see the point in regulating the industry. The emphasis in ANY industry should be quality. Nothing more, nothing less. If the customer is willing to compromise on these things then that is the customers choice! The regulation of what photographers "should" be charging is a shallow...

What file compression do you shoot in ?

I only shoot in NEF (RAW) if the conditions become difficult. RAW gives much more PP control so it is useful if you are having difficulty with lighting and contrast in your scenes. For everything else JPEG fine is good enough. :)

    Questions on Digi-Cabi

Actually, the mechanism that powers the drying function in the digi-cabi is extremely low power. It doesn't matter how hard it is working, it's going to make virtually no difference to your power bill. Mine has been sitting at 40% since the day I bought it and that's been perfect. Everything is...

What do you mean by Grey set?

Just look at the warranty card. If it is not issued in Singapore but is, instead, from HK or somewhere else then the chances are it is a grey set.

Which country has the most beautiful ladies and Handsome Men?

That's about as subjective as you can get... Women? Japan. Hands down. Men? Don't care. :P
