I agree with bro ETTK75. Actually I have the same dilemma as you last year. After careful consideration, I bought the 70-300 VR and had no regrets whatsoever since having it. If you are really in a tight budget and still wanna have a 70-300 lens, you may consider 3rd arty lens like Sigma...

Lens hoods serve their purpose very well. I don't think it will really scare people. The benefits of using lens hood outweighs what you perceive as the scare factor of it. ;)

hi bro, you may try 'the camera workshop' at peninsular shopping complex, 1st level. i think they sell the cheapest among the rest specially if you buy in cash. i dont know how much will it be if you pay by credit card.
