OK . . UPDATE: Back to the main topic of this thread. I bought the 15-85 and have shot two events for the local mag I do some work for SNAP Okanagan - Community Events Media . The copy I have is every bit as sharp as my 24-105. Very good wide open at 15-70mm and only needs to be stopped down...
I wonder if a custom picture profile in the camera to increase sharpness, contrast and saturation would improve results. All you'd have to do is select that profile whenever you have the 55-250 installed? Hhmmm, I' going to give that a try myseld.
I agree, range and IS for every'day' with the 24-105 is the way to go (that's what I shoot most of the time. If you really need the f2.8 for low light shooting 'without the flash' then the 24-70 would be the way to go IMHO.
This thread isn't about flaming of any lens . . it's about the photographer 'regretting to buy' a lens for ANY reason . . even if the lens is great! :)
Dead on for the 55-250. Just fine and nice and sharp on computer screen and small prints, and mine actually focuses nice and fast (and I'm used to the 24-105) and the IS is very good, but when I look at shots 100% size you can see the softness that would be evident if cropped and blown up.
Hi folks. I just noticed Canon Canada has listed a new lens, 28mm f2.8 IS USM (and also a 24mm with same spec). Just wondering if this lens has been available anywhere else in the world or if anyone has any opinions to offer? :)
This is a lot like my thinking/reasoning. I'm shooting a crop camera (40D) and I have and use a 24-105L extensively but finding that I bump into a constraint at the wide end quite often now. I also have a 55-250 for tele which is just fine because I seldom shoot in the tele range. What I have...
This is a really interesting uummm perspective about perspective . . 'the frame fitting what your mind's eye sees' . . I like it, I like it a lot, just makes perfect sense :)
I couldn't agree more with your statement about forgetting that it's a 'kit lens', it's just way too broad of a generalization to be of much use any more. From all accounts the 15-85 seems to be a pretty good zoom lens and I can tell you that the 24-105L is a damn good lens even though it's a...
Interesting that you find the 50mm (75mm equiv for you I believe) to be the least preferred for your shooting style. What is it that you find yourself shooting most of the time?
I'm leaning toward 35mm too. I walked around the house with my zoom set at 50mm and just looked for things to shoot, walked up to the spot that 'felt right' to shoot them from, then raised the camera and framed the shot. Almost all the time the frame seemed way too tight through the view finder...
