Thank you for responding. Appreciate the support here. Though some answers were quiet sarcastic but some were helpful. I am not competing with anyone so its just for me to better understand whats out there so i dont underquote the average rate thats floating around and affect the photography...

50mm f1.4 is a good cheap lens which you could use. Even the 100mm macro canon lens is good. It not just depends on the lens you use but also the light availability.

I like the fact that you think this amateur should be paid. Art should never be free and given he is going to shoot your daughter's birthday I think $150-$200 is very rewarding. That itself will be a motivation to master his skills.
