I think it's all about profit margin... A55 is made in Thailland = lower cost so highier profit A580 is made in Japan = lower profit for price to be competitiive given the strong Yen.

More battery...the A55 battery life is bad. I have 1 x original and 3 x third party batteries. Also get the wireless remote and cable shutter release. Should cost less than S$5 each on ebay.

All battery will have problem holding charge in cold weather...even the original ones. One trick is to keep the batteriesclose to your body, like in your pocket or waist pouch. I am using "Pisen" brand battery for my A55 bought in Guangzhou. So far so good. Performance is very close to...

Before I remove the problematic Sony Semi Hard LCD Protector , I took a photo to show the gaps at the bottom of the protector which I believe causes the dust problem. Dun understand why Sony design the sheet with gaps...:dunno:

I use 3M microfiber lens cleaning cloth to wipe my camera. The dust is between the screen surface and the protector and it enters thru the two openings at the lower corners. I feel it is a design flaw as the adhesive does not go all around the sceen.

At least now I know mine is not the only case. Lousy design from Sony. I was at Sony Service Center the othe day. Decided to show it to their CS officer. Was told nothing can be done as it was purchased from a Sony authorised dealer and not them. They also claimed that mine was the first case...

I do keep my camera and other stuffs in dry cabinets when not in use.

Anyone here using the original Semi Hard LCD Protector for the Sony A33/55? Does this happen to yours? Dust is getting in between the screen and the protector. Think it is time to get a new (non-Sony) screen protector.
