Here in the UK, Ireland has just introduced a Plastic Bag Tax for single use carrier bags. Retailers in the England / Scotland have voluntarily starting charging 5p per bag used, with plans to make it compulsory for all stores to charge next year. I think all of us 1st world countries...

What is your budget? Some of these journeys will be quicker to drive / train than fly, but others vice versa. I can help you (I live in UK) but it would be helpful to know the cities you wish to visit. This will make a huge difference to your travel time. Just with the UK as an example...

These are some brightly colour beach huts about 1 hour away from London. Very small, but people seem to love them! Some go for a high price, just so they can be beside the sea. (You aren't allowed to live in them though, day use only!) I wish the sky had been less cloudy when I took the shot...
