For indoor events user who start w/one body only, choose a Wide-Zoom lens & 580II could be better. But u ask for Portrait use from yr list... the 50/1.4 is yr choice. and 7D or 50D...? then ask yr budgrt will know.

For a crop body, choose yr option (2) would be better. And with yr 50mm there'r enough lens use for yr type of photography. U can consider to upgrade yr 55-250 to 24-105 first.

Raw file usually come with large size which can process more image data n detail for design use. The size depend on the style of pic, subject, lighting & ISO setting etc. One thing would be the new "Dual Digic4" digital image processor that 7D' Raw is bigger than 5D2.

It's true. As TS need a wide angle between these 2 L, would enjoy in&outdoor shoot with 24L+50L.

Between yr 3 choices, the 17-40mm would be the best for you.

Choose from these 3 lens, 17-55mm is the best choice come with yr body. But u would consider the 24-105mm if u own only 1 lens 1st.

bring 1: 17~40mm bring 2: + 15mm FE (when u need some special...)

yr Best choice is... could be either 16~35mm & 17~55mm when in-door shooting.

Both 50mm & 85mm are good for Portrait shoot. and for (1.6x crop) the 50mm is your beter choice.
