Fixing a Nikon D80 with err problem

The -E- might be cleared once you cycle the shutter. Soldering the green wire should be easy. If in doubt, take your multimeter, set it for resistance (Ohms) and check for shorting to the adjacent pads (I think it should read "1" or open/infinite resistance). If the multimeter reads 0, then...

Fixing a Nikon D80 with err problem

Thanks fatigue! I opened it back up. I can measure 7.8V (battery voltage) going into the small board behind the small shield (Power PCB?). BUT, the red and black out wires to the capacitor board (descrete wires under camera) show no voltage (with power switch on, or off). So I'm guessing this...

Fixing a Nikon D80 with err problem

-------------------------------------------------------- Is the DG board the open that us next to the capacitor, in an up-down orientation? I think the reason I shorted it is because I tried to discharge it with an analog multimeter, but the positive pin of the cap shorted to the cap top...

D80 - shorted capacitor during ERR fix - what now as no rear LCD & no images stored

Very lightly used D80, aperture control ERR problem, so I was taking it all apart. Had done this once before with no problems. I shorted the flash capacitor to something - big spark and blew the grey wire off the circuit board above the cap. I fixed the app control wheel and I put is all back...

Fixing a Nikon D80 with err problem

GREAT write up. It worked fine on a D80 I fixed. Problem with a second D80 --- I shorted the capacitor to something during discharge. It blew the grey wire off at the circuit board above it. Good news is the shutter is fixed, LCD on top works, but: Rear LCD not working (was not in camera...

Fixing a Nikon D80 with err problem

Great photos! I just disassembled a D80 and an angled, brass piece, 2 holes in one side and 1 hole at the other end, with a bit of black tape in the middle, fell out of somewhere. Does anyone know where it goes ??? Thx ------------ Figured it out. It goes on the lower right hole of the metal...
